Arian co-founded the Hudson Exploited Theater Co. (HExTC) in 1990 and currently serves as its Producing Artistic Director. Arian is a graduate of Penn State University from where he earned a BS in Business Mgmt. and a BA in Theatre Arts. He maintains a varied and successful career in the areas of directing, producing and nonprofit arts management. Most recently he directed Mas que un foreclosure by Tere Martinez as part of IATI Theater’s PAM Festival as well as short-run revival of Cuban Operator Please... as a co-production with IATI Theater. In 2010 he directed the world premiere of I Want You by My Side by Tere Martinez for IATI Theater in association with Teatro StageFEST for which he was honored with an HOLA Excellence Award in direction; that year he also directed GENEVA by A.B. Lugo at Teatro La Tea as part of its Asi Somos Play Festival. His film directing work include the shorts: Reigniting Hope by Ivan Goris and Mo(u)rning (An Excerpt) by Adrian Rodriguez and Winter Guayabera which he wrote.
Indie-Theater directing highlights include: WorkShop Theater’s “Play in Progress” production of Niya Tey Soung by David Mead (2006), the US premiere reading of Dali by Cuban playwright Luis Enrique Valdes Duarte (2006) as part of NYU’s International HotINK Play Festival. In 2005 he directed the New York premiere of JANE HO by John Pallotta which ran for three weeks at the Lion Theatre on Theatre Row and was selected by Repertorio Español to direct the hugely successful world premiere production Marido Encadenado by Rob Santana. In 2004, he directed Repertorio Español’s New Voces playwright contest finalist Boxcar by Silvia Gonzalez. Boxcar was subsequently selected as the grand prize winner. That year he also directed, the US premiere of Dinosaurios by Argentinean playwright Santiago Serrano as part of IATI Theater’s main stage season starring Emilio Delgado and Vivian Deangelo which garnered him an HOLA Excellence Award in direction. Over the years he has directed all of Adrian Rodriguez’s plays including: The Union City Plays (2001) at the Park Theatre and the world premieres of MO(U)RNING (2003), Dismiss All the Poets (2002) for which Arian received a FRINGE EXCELLENCE Award in Direction; La Fabrica (2001), and Cuban Operator Please... (2000); each debuting at the New York City FRINGE Festival.
Arian has served as producer of numerous theatrical and film projects including: producer and curator of the HExTC on Film Screening Room Series at 32nd Street Playhouse, NJ. He was an Executive Producer for the film short Roma Sub Rosa by Jim Thalman and directed by Michael Fischa, which ran on the festival circuit and in 2002 he served as lead producer in HExTC’s production of Rubber by Tom Sleigh and directed by Dyana Kimball at Midtown Intl. Theatre Festival, New York City which was selected as a BEST OF THE FEST production and went on to earn a 2003 OOBR Award.
As a nonprofit arts administrator Arian has worked in various capacities at a number of well-known institutions such as Carnegie Hall as a Patron Service Manager, Artsgenesis, Inc as its first Business Manager, NJ Shakespeare Festival as an Asst. Box Office Manager and The Actors Playhouse (Coral Gables, FL) as its first Subscriptions Manager. He has served as Festival Coordinator for DeBuan Performing Arts Center’s Hudson County One-Act Festival. Presently, Arian works for the New York State Council on the Arts as a Program Officer. He has also done nonprofit consulting work for Wit Media, The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, Arts and Business Council, Bronx Arts Council and the Hudson County Office of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
